Your modifications sound good, but I have a few questions:
What types of levels will you be adding? As a tip, when making new levels, try to make sure that they're significant and unique/different from others in some shape or form. Adding new enemy types, challenges, or obstacles can help with this!
Will you be making the artwork yourself? I'd definitely recommend doing so!
What type of power up will your game have? What will it do?
The modifications I mentioned are vague because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do. I am adding new levels that increase with difficulty. With the new levels, I added a new enemy called the boss. The artwork isn't wholly new. I took two of the shooters, combined them in Kirita, and gave them a new color. They will have an animation. I'm not doing a power-up. The criteria say " modified ship controls." I'm adding a new projectile that will be bound to the mouse's right button.
